mojo mundi

Mojo Mundi is a word I created to describe my practice of using World Dance to explore, connect with, balance and vitalize energy portals (which I refer to as Olwyns) in our physical bodies.  Mojo is probably a Creole word, perhaps from the Fula, the language of the Fulani of West Africa, as in the word moco’o which translates to “Medicine Man”.

Mojo is a complex concept that is similar to but not synonymous with the term Medicine of the indigenous people of North America.  Mojo means power and magic and spirit.  And it also implies one’s idiosyncratic manifestation of spirit, one’s unique personal kind of power, spirit, and magic.

Mundi is Latin for “of the world” according to Stack Exchange.  These two words together – Mojo Mundi – roughly translate to Kosmic Energy of the World, a phrase that describes the unique spiritual power in each one of us as we exist on Earth in each moment.  Mojo Mundi also relates to the power of World Dance to help us be our most dynamic, creative Selves in our time on Earth.

I offer my deepest gratitude to my teachers, their teachers, and their teachers’ teachers, from Africa, the Middle East, the Pacific Islands, India, Eastern Europe, and Asia. These men and women have shared their skills and cultures, permitting the blessings of their cultures’ music and dance, history and people to benefit humankind around the world. They are true ambassadors for a world united in compassion and peace.
