world dance
the original caravan of dreams
World Dance is the sister of World Music, a genre of music that blends traditional and modern rhythms, melodies, styles, and instruments from diverse cultures across the globe. World Music recognizes the richness that diversity brings to our lives and grows out of the commitment of artists from around the world to work toward a peaceful life for all creatures on Earth. World Dance combines ideas, movements, and music from many countries into a celebration of the commonalities and unique gifts that exist among various cultures. The underlying message is that we are all family – including those with feathers, fur, scales, bark, leaves, minerals – and we share one great neighborhood called Earth. We can learn to honor Deity in ourselves and in others when we can come to a place of harmony with all that exists in our Universe.
I offer my deepest gratitude to my teachers, their teachers, and their teachers’ teachers from Africa, the Middle East, the Pacific Islands, India, Eastern Europe, and Asia. These men and women have shared their skills and cultures, permitting the blessings of their cultures’ music and dance, history and people to benefit humankind around the world. They are true ambassadors for a world united in compassion and peace.
I am excited to share my love of dances from the Middle East, Africa, India, and Eastern and Western Europe. These dances have been passed to me by my teachers and present a delightful opportunity to develop connections with our brothers and sisters around the world. I include information about my teachers and their cultures. My teaching style is student-centered. Together, we create a community through dancing, breathing, laughing, and sharing energy together.
